We all brush our teeth regularly – but not all the plaque can be removed completely at home. Therefore adults and children should see their dentist for a regular check-up and clean every 6 months. In some situations more frequent care may be necessary, as is the case with smoking and alcohol use, diabetes, pregnancy, advanced periodontal and gum disease and certain other medical conditions.
During the examination, all your teeth will be checked together with the gums. The inside of your mouth including the tongue and back of the throat are also examined for normal colour and shape. We take x-rays to check that there is no hidden decay between the teeth and under your fillings.
Attending your regular check ups will detect any early problems such as gum disease, oral cancer and new and existing cavities. This is a smart investment in your health which can help you avoid greater damage, and save time and money in the long term.
